Are you in the dark*
about

Business Idioms?

An idiom is a commonly used expression whose meaning does not relate to the literal meaning of its words. Business 'speak' is full of them!

* To be in the dark means you do not know about something.
See more about it below.
Hit the nail on the head.jpeg

Hit the nail in the head

When someone hits the nail on the head, they do or say exactly the right thing and precisely describe the cause of a problem or situation. They get to the point without any difficulty, just like a nail goes straight in if it is hit on the head with a hammer.

Example

Sajid: I don’t think we can work with them. They don’t speak English well.

Karl: You’ve hit the nail on the head, Sajid! It’s a big problem understanding them.

Think outside the box

To think outside the box means to take a new approach to a problem, perhaps a creative, original one and maybe unconventional.

Example

Andrew: Guys, we’re getting nowhere with this.

Juanita: You’re right, Andrew. We need to think outside the box to come up with a better idea.
